Introducing Nutty

Nutty is a self-contained semi-modular synthesizer designed for hands-on exploration and deep patching. At its core is a Pi Pico–powered MIDI-to-CV engine with an Internal clock, Divider, and Arpeggiator, driving a fully analog signal path.

It features dual 3340 VCOs alongside a dedicated Drone oscillator and Noise source, feeding classic and characterful filters including a Diode ladder low-pass and a Steiner-Parker multimode. An 8-step sequencer, Dual ASR envelopes, a built-in 13700 VCA, and an Mixer make Nutty playable straight out of the box, while Buffered multiples and flexible CV routing invite experimentation beyond fixed signal paths.

Nutty is built to blur the line between instrument and playground compact, expressive, and unapologetically hands-on.

What started as our first prototype became a lesson in voltage, limits, and possibility. Nutty shaped the way we think about modular design — and we owe it everything for getting us here.

The Journey

3D Printed Knobs

We didn’t receive any D-sharp knobs, so we ended up designing and 3D-printing our own. The potentiometers we used were also a different type, which made custom 3D-printed knobs the only practical solution.

No Components

After implementing Moritz Klein’s design and getting the PCB fabricated, we hit an unexpected wall...the components we needed simply weren’t available in India.

PCB

The PCB was our first real victory. After weeks of schematics and layout tweaks, we finally fabricated the board. That victory, however, came with a twist...most of the components for this design were impossible to source within India. Instead of stopping, we adapted, learned, and kept pushing.
